Discover Montevecchia

One hill, many stories.

In Montevecchia, the view is only the beginning. The village takes shape in the homes along the ridge, the paths crossing it and the care given to its landscape.

An identity shaped over time

Montevecchia appears in Goffredo da Bussero’s Liber notitiae sanctorum in the 13th century. Its history also includes Maria Gaetana Agnesi, the mathematician and philanthropist associated with the village villa. In 1966 Montevecchia regained municipal independence after its union with Cernusco. The origin of the place name remains open to interpretation.

The village and sanctuary

Largo Agnesi is a landmark of the upper village, below the Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of Mount Carmel. The villas are also private homes; interiors may be visited only during explicitly announced openings.

A cultivated hillside

The ronchi, the hill’s agricultural terraces, give rhythm to its slopes. Vineyards and crops reveal the link between scenery and work. Enjoy them from permitted paths without entering farmland.

Into the park

Montevecchia and Curone Valley Park extends the visit to trails, woodland and sensitive habitats: a place to notice landscape details and discover perspectives beyond the upper village.

The Pyramids: landscape and mystery

Some names change how we look at a place. “Pyramids of Montevecchia” is one of them: it suggests enigmatic forms, invites us to seek patterns in the landscape and leaves room for imagination. Their almost mystical appeal adds to the village’s contemplative character. Interpretations of their origins should remain distinct from documented facts; mystery is an invitation to curiosity.
